Chapter 1.02: Icky Icky Boys

Juniper was sitting at the dinning room table with Isobel in her high chair, and she was still very nervous about telling her little girl that she was going to try dating again. It had been two years since her father had been burnt up by the sun after their divorce. It was also kind of odd to be having this talk because his ghost lingered around the house and he could possibly be listening in somehow. Shaking her head and clearing her throat, she turned to Isobel.

"Sweetie, mama is going to talk to lots of new people. New boys," Juniper said. Ugh, why was she even having this conversation with a three year old? Isobel looked at her, right at her. Could she understand? Her ability to talk and speak actual words was much better these days, so much better.

"Boys? Icky!" Isobel said, she watched as the toddler made a face. Juniper grinned, that was her girl.

"Boys, are really icky aren't they?" Juniper asked the three year old. She was very glad that Isobel's fourth birthday was right around the corner. Her behavior had gotten much better, the new nanny absolutely adored Isobel which made it so much easier to leave for work in the mornings. Juniper was almost jealous of Nanny Toby, because they spent so much time together and Isobel loved playing with him.

"Icky, icky," Isobel said, giggling. Taking a deep breath, Juniper would continue with the conversation.

"But NOT all boys are icky, some are very nice and make you feel special," Juniper told the littler girl. She waited for a reaction, any reaction, but there wasn't one. She supposed it was better than her throwing a tantrum."I think I need to start looking for that perfect guy again, you could have a Papa again," she said slowly.

"Papa?" Isobel asked. Juniper nodded. Her daughter had just started trying to walk when they divorced and soon after the divorce.... Well, he perished. Her ex-husband had spontaneously burst into flames from being the sun from being a vampire. Sighing, she frowned. She almost missed being a vampire, the freedom, the magic, the infinite amount of time. It was all so exciting. Once she found out she was pregnant with Isobel, she sought out someone to give her humanity back to her. She didn't want her child exposed to that, as exciting as it was she would never wish that on her daughter.

Junipers phone began to ring, she looked down at her phone and frowned. Was it already 8:00? Shit, she had to go. She declined the phone call, and called Toby to come watch Isobel.  The two of them sat there in silence and giggles until Toby arrived, in his unusual attire.

"Thanks for coming! As usual, I'm late for work, thanks so much!" Juniper said as she hurried out the door. She looked over her shoulder as she was about to round the corner to catch a taxi. She smiled to herself as she a saw very angry toddler laying down the law with Toby.

That's her girl!
