Chapter 1.12: Time Just Flies

Image
Well, here it was their family pie she made on birthdays. She couldn't believe it was Isobel's tenth birthday, Serene had turned three and Juniper declared she no longer needed birthdays because she no longer got older despite being human. "Children! Rug rats! Munchkins!" Juniper called up to them. Isobel was the first to come downstairs, it was kind of depressing. Her little girl, was growing up so fast. too fast. Juniper could remember their first words, and how odd it was that they weren't spouting mama. Isobel's first word was broccoli, and Serene's was doll. "Thanks mama," Isobel said as the grabbed a slice. Juniper sighed, smiling down at her little girl and watching as she walked out of the kitchen. Would there be a day when she walked out of this house, for good? Would there be a day when she had kids of her own? She supposed it was only natural, children grow and mature. They learn new things, but she couldn't imagine her li

Chapter 1.11: Change of Heart

Image
Juniper smiled down at Isobel, her first born daughter, and smiles as she sees the smile on her daughters face. It had taken a year for Isobel to get used to Serene, the little girl giggling her arms. A very long year, a year where Isobel sometimes yelled and through tantrums because she thought Serene was taking her away. It had deeply pained Juniper to see her daughter so upset, and she wanted nothing more than to see both her children be happy. Toby had finally gotten through to her, telling her that they would love them both the same and take them both out on fun adventures. It had been a slow process with Isobel, but eventually she came around and even spent hours talking to Serene when she was baby. "Mama, can I play with Serene now?" Isobel asked her. Juniper laughed, now she had to worry about Isobel keeping Serene up all the time. "Isobel," she said to the toddler. "I... Is?" Serene asked. This made her laugh, the girl was so enchanted by

Chapter 1.10: Heart to Heart

"Ok, so listen. And I mean really listen to me when I say this," Isobel told little Serene. "So, you're my little sister and I think I am suppose to teach you how to be really smart like me," she said. Isobel paused, peering down at the baby, at her sister and then finally at the giant stuffed animal. "Lesson number one, that stuffed animal over there is a good listener. I used to tell her all my problems and I always felt better after I did," she told Serene. Isobel paused, maybe Serene would give some sort of indication she understood. A burp, a gurgle or something, but there was no sign. "It's alright, we'll work on it. You're gonna be a smart person like me, hopefully. No offense but it's not looking too promising for you with all this crying, you do. Gonna have to stop screaming eventually so might as well start now. I guess that leads to lesson number two, if you want to be smart like me then you need to practice early!

Chapter 1.09: Serene and Isobel

Sighing, she sat on the sofa as she stared out into space. They had only just gotten back home with their newborn baby, and she had to admit she was absolutely drained. Juniper had been in labor for fifteen hours. Fifteen fucking horrible hours of trying to push out a little human. Whoever said child birth was beautiful was and still is a complete idiot. There was nothing beautiful about pushing a little crying human out of you, she could only imagine what it did to her down there. Hell, she didn't even think Isobel took that long to come out of her. No, she had needed a C-Section for Isobel. Now it was coming back to her, her first born was in a breached position and it had been far too dangerous to try a natural birth.  Taking another deep breath, she got up and headed towards the stairs. Despite the fifteen hours of labor, she still had to take care of the baby. "Isobel, want to come meet your sister?" Juniper asked.  "I don't know, what if she does

Chapter 1.08: Fishing With Toby

Image
"So, Isobel," Toby started with. Isobel, who had just caught herself a decent fish, looked over to him with a smile. She adored him. Toby had practically raised her before she learned to talk and walk. In many ways, he was the father she never got to have, but Toby was not her papa. "I know you probably have lots of questions for me, about your mama. So, go for it, ask them. There is no such thing as a stupid question," he told her.  ".... Why are you living with us?" Isobel asked. "I don't need a nanny anymore. Or a tutor, I'm on the All A Honor Roll!" she added.  "Hun, your mama is very special to me. We've become such good friends, and we've grown really close. Isobel, does it upset you that I live with you?" Toby asked her. She had to think about it, really and truly think about it. Isobel thought of Toby as family, and she learned from her mama to treat family well. "I'm not upset, I just

Chapter 1.07: Last Vacation Day

Image
Mama was going to be so proud of me, Isobel just knew it. Who other than her would do homework on a vacation? No one, that's who! Heh, she was the smartest girl in the whole wide world. A few hours later, Isobel had returned to the campsite and had opted to play some horseshoes, but first she went to change her clothes. She emerged from the tent sporting a different outfit and then went over to the horseshoes. "Looking pretty cute," Mama told her. "Yep," Isobel said, trying to focus on her game.

Chapter 1.06: Memorable Moments

Image
Juniper was surprised they made it through the night, because Isobel had yelled and threatened to run away. She, of course, yelled and threatened to lock her up in her bedroom if she tried to run away. Isobel had to laugh at everything, her daughter seemed to have more of herself in her than her father and that was a miracle. Vihaan was.... Well he was bat shit crazy and though she loved him there was no way she was dealing with a husband who was insane and obsessed over his past flame. "Mama, what are you thinking of?" Isobel asked her. "Your father," Juniper answered softly. She almost wished he was still here, alive and well so he could watch their beautiful little girl grow into a woman. "What was he like?" Isobel asked. She looked over at her daughter, the daughter who had brought her so much joy and happiness. Juniper couldn't bring herself to ruin the pleasant thoughts her daughter had of her father. "He was charming, he could ma

Chapter 1.05: Camping Trip

Image
Isobel sat there as her mama told her a story about some princess, but who cared about princesses? She was more interested in exploring and seeing all Granite Falls had to offer, but she loved her mama so she nodded as the story was told. "What happened to the soldiers and the dragons?" Isobel asked as her mama finished the story. "Well the brave soldiers fought the scary dragons and drove them back where they came from," Mama told her. She frowned, the dragons weren't scary. Isobel was sure they were just lonely and misunderstood by the kingdom, the dumb princess had it wrong. "I think they should have made friends with the dragons," Isobel said. Mama laughed at her comment and she added, "well, what if the dragons could have protected the kingdom from evil people and invaders." "They certainly could have! If you were the princess would you have tried to make friends with the dragon?" Mama asked her. Isobel made a face. Sh

Chapter 1.04: Smartest Girl Ever

Image
Isobel giggled as she played with Toby, this was her favorite thing to do besides playing with Sparkle or her tablet. "Faster! Faster!" Isobel said, her giggles were becoming hysterical as they played. "Aww Issy, I don't know if I can go any faster," Toby told her as he laughed. She frowned and covered his eyes. "Ahhh! I can't see, my eyes! My eyes!" he yelled playfully as she held her hands over his eyes. The two of them played for a more minutes before he set her down gently on the ground, and Isobel stood there staring at him as he gazed back at her. "Numbers?" Isobel asked him. She felt like she wanted to make mama happy, and the only she knew how to do that was by making sure she was very smart. "Numbers, please," she corrected herself as he raised his eyebrows at her question. "There you go," Toby said. The two of them spent most of the learning numbers and playing games on her tablet. Mama was going to

Chapter 1.03:Happy Pie Day

Image
Juniper sighed, she wasn't going to win any mother of the year awards.... She had completely missed Isobel's fourth birthday a while back. She was such a screw up as a parent, luckily Toby had promised to help with her fifth birthday this year so it wouldn't be missed. Juniper screamed inside the coffin she was sleeping in, something had went wrong with the process of becoming human again and she still had unusual behaviors. A few hours later, she sat at the dining room table with Isobel and freshly made apple pie. It was the day before her fifth birthday, and because she had to work tomorrow she went ahead with the celebrations. Juniper knew that most other families baked cakes with over sugary frosting decorating it, but fuck cake. Pie was much better, and there was no chance that extra sugar was going to go into simply decorating it. "Happy Pie Day!" Juniper said excitably. She watched her daughter smile and stare at the apple pie. Juniper wasn't going

Chapter 1.02: Icky Icky Boys

Image
Juniper was sitting at the dinning room table with Isobel in her high chair, and she was still very nervous about telling her little girl that she was going to try dating again. It had been two years since her father had been burnt up by the sun after their divorce. It was also kind of odd to be having this talk because his ghost lingered around the house and he could possibly be listening in somehow. Shaking her head and clearing her throat, she turned to Isobel. "Sweetie, mama is going to talk to lots of new people. New boys," Juniper said. Ugh, why was she even having this conversation with a three year old? Isobel looked at her, right at her. Could she understand? Her ability to talk and speak actual words was much better these days, so much better. "Boys? Icky!" Isobel said, she watched as the toddler made a face. Juniper grinned, that was her girl. "Boys, are really icky aren't they?" Juniper asked the three year old. She was very glad

Chapter 1.01: A New Nanny

Image
1.0 Isobel's Early Days ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Juniper let the soft and lovely notes of the piano flow through her, helping to relax her stiff and aching muscles. Isobel was getting bigger, and wanted to play more often which led to stiff muscles.... The piano was an escape into a lovely world where she could imagine herself running through trails and taking in scenery. Of course, she could have meditated but that was a rarity these days, her silly little girl required almost all of her attention and left very little time for to unwind. Junipers peace came to an end when she heard little footsteps upstairs, shaking her head at the unbelievable amount of energy the little girl had as she got up. Maybe, if she was lucky she could help Isobel learn some basics, but only if the girl would put up with it. Mizuki's angry statements about Isobel not being disciplined flashed in her mind. Sighing, she w

Chapter 1.0: Isobel's Early Days

Image
Juniper had just finished giving the grumpy toddler a bath, and ended up getting all wet when her boss called because she was yet again late for work. Sometimes having a career just got in the way of motherhood, today was one of those days.... "Okay, mama has to go to work. But Nanny Mizuki is gonna watch you like usual," Juniper said to the babbling little girl. The little toddler just giggled and started babbling. Smiling, she picked up the phone and called Mizuki before she left work leaving only when the woman showed up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Authors Note: The Point of View changes over to Isobel in this chapter.  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Nuuuu" Isobel cried as the nanny showed up and started talking with her. This wasn't mama, and Iso wanted her
