Chapter 1.31: Fact or Fiction?

1.30 Not Today ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "I don't understand, you saw her make out with Seth. Why are you giving her another chance?" Caleb asked him. Hayden sighed, he didn't know how else to explain it to Caleb. Isobel was a once in a lifetime kind of girl, and one he cared for. Why would he give up on her? "I care about her, and I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt," Hayden said. The two of them were standing outside of Seth's house, and even though neither of them really wanted to be here, Hayden had insisted. "Now, this is simple. We go in and chat with them, then we leave," Hayden said. "I still don't get it, it's not like she's something special," Caleb said. "I mean, she clearly doesn't feel the same about you, or else she wouldn't be screwing around with Seth," he said, trying to convince Hayden to walk away. He shook his head,

Chapter 1.30: Not Today

Serene woke up the next morning in her bed with no memory of how she got back home, but she could vividly remember everything else. The last thing the guide told her is that she had a choice to make, and it would change a lot of things. She decided that she would not spend her tenth birthday upset and confused, nope it wasn't going to happen. A girl only turns ten once, and she was going to make the most of it. Serene walked downstairs to see her mama cooking something, and smiled. Today, she wasn't going to worry about what happened to her papa, because today she was going to pretend everything was okay. "Serene! Good morning, how did you sleep? You were sleeping like a rock when I went to check on you last night," her mama told her. Serene laughed, and shrugged because she really didn't know to what to say. "Hey munchkin, do you mind clearing the table for me?" mama asked her. "I don't mind," Serene said, and went to clear the tabl

Serene had just gotten home when she heard a voice behind her and turned around to see who it was. The person who had called her name, or rather called out to her was the same hooded black figure she remembered seeing her mama talk to. "Who are you?" Serene asked, trying to act brave. "Child, come with me," the hooded figure said. Her blood ran cold upon hearing its voice and her eyes narrowed. She didn't know this thing, or what it wanted but for some reason she didn't think it would hurt her. "Tell me something first," Serene said. The figured nodded, and then waited for her to ask her question. "Were you the thing that spoke to my mama that day after my papa died?" she asked. "I am but, child I am not a thing. I am a guide," the hooded figure said. "Anymore questions?" it asked. "What kind of guide are you?" Serene asked. She felt better knowing that this figure wasn't dangerous, and was now

She thought she could handle seeing Hayden again, but it was harder than she thought it was going to be. Isobel tried not to flinch at his touch, and smiled a little as he hugged her. His voice mail said he wanted to talk and then grab dinner. She was starving so she agreed to meet up with him, free food, who could turn that down? "You wanted to talk?" Isobel asked him, raising her eyebrows. "Yes," Hayden said. "How was school? We don't attend the same school anymore," he said. She rolled her eyes. Was she really breaking her curfew so he could make small talk with her? "It was fine, their art program is shit so I'm dealing. People stare at me, and call me 'the paint freak'," Isobel said casually. "Is this really why you wanted to talk?" she asked him. "Definitely, this is why I wanted to talk. Also, I thought we could talk about us," Hayden said. Wow, she didn't expect him to say th

"Alright, I want an update on our progress! Sofia? What has your research said?" Serene asked. "Well... It hasn't really said anything. It just talks about Garlic and how it supposedly repels vamps," Sofia said. She nodded, looking to Ashton who nodded in agreement and then looked back to Sofia. "The only other thing I found is that some vamps can be out in sunlight," she said quietly. "WHAT?" Mateo yelled suddenly. His eyes narrowed, and he stiffened. "You mean the bloodsuckers could be walking around in plain sight?!" He asked. "Yeah...." Sofia said, she looked upset. "I found that certain books have more information on vamps," Ashton said, and looked around at everyone. Both Sofia and Mateo looked at him, curious. "Want me to order them for us?" he asked. Serene nodded, this was good. Actual progress in finding the vampires and driving them out of their town. "Yes, go ahead and orde

Chapter 1.26: What's Your Problem?

"No...." Hayden said as he stood there staring at Isobel and Seth through the window. Was she really kissing him? It had to be some sort of trick or something; she wouldn't do that to him. She had asked for space, and he gave it to her but this wasn't space. Why was she doing this? Hayden didn't want to storm in there and cause a scene, after all he still couldn't get in trouble and so he turned around. He walked over to the fountain and frowned, their first fight was right by this fountain. He remembered telling her that her new haircut was interesting and that set her off. "You cut your hair? It looks different," Hayden told her. She stiffened, and her eyes narrowed. Uh oh, time to backtrack. "A good different," he clarified. He reached forwards to brush a stray hair off her face but she grabbed his hand before he was even close. "So what if I look different! Or does it matter to you? Well, does it?! Does it matter if I d

Chapter 1.25: Talk to Me

Hayden looked down at his phone, grimacing at the wallpaper it had as he could remember when they took this picture, eight months ago before her step father or step whatever passed away. His mind slowly drifted off as he waited for her at the Art Museum, the one he took her to on their first date... "Hayden, are you going to get in my picture or are you just going to be an awkward photo bomber?" Isobel asked him. He couldn't help but to laugh, and he grinned. Isobel Bay was the perfect girl for him. She knew just what to say and just how to tell him to shut the hell up without ticking him off, who could ask for anyone better? "Yeah yeah, you and your pictures," Hayden said. He shook his head lightly and got behind her, smiling as the phone's light blinked. She looked at it, laughed and then giggled. "What's so funny?" he asked her. "You look like I had to pull some teeth to get you to smile," Isobel said as she laughed. D

Chapter 1.24: Looking Forwards Not Back

Author's Note: This chapter is going to be a long one, so bear with me because you will hear from two different people here. Serene stood in the park waiting for the few friends she actually trusted to show up, and sighed this was a hard choice. She liked all her friends, especially Xena who was alien but the decision to disband her previous club wasn't anything personal. Okay, that was a lie. It was personal, she hadn't felt much like gathering in the past six months. Most of her friends weren't mad at her, Xena and Nobuya were however mad at her because they enjoyed the club. Serene had enjoyed the club too, but she wasn't that nice little girl anymore. That club was the making of someone who didn't know what she knew. She looked up as Ashton and Mateo arrived followed by Sofia. Good, everyone was here. "Okay, so I disbanded up the Runner Up's club and I know you are upset or well I think you could be, I don't know," Serene said. "
