Chapter 1.23: Changed

Image
Isobel couldn't remember a time where her life was more complicated than it was now, and she was really missing the days where her life was simple. She shook her head, the night before the party was insane and very confusing. It was magical, sweet and romantic. But it wasn't Hayden that shared a night with her, it was Seth Marino. The bold and daring red headed boy who was mostly an asshole but was also very sweet towards her. After Toby had died, she was inconsolable and wouldn't see anyone, not even Hayden who treated her right and cared for her was able to console her. She spiraled, a dark and twisted spiral. Seth Marino, the boy who literally told her to get over herself because it had been six months since Toby died. Six months had passed where everyone and everything around her was moving on, changing for the better while she was simply doing worse. Ever since then, she would invite him over and they would hangout. The usual movies, chess, swimming and relaxin

Chapter 1.22: Death's Rules

Image
Authors Note: This chapter starts Serene into the story, or more accurately her point of view. Now that Toby is dead, she officially gets her debut! Also, their wonderful new house they live in is thanks to Glenkarri from the D.N.A team! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mama decided it was best if they move, because papa and the old house was too sad. The old house was filled with the haunting old tunes of the piano, the laughter from when he told us silly jokes and the sweet sound of his voice when he read her bedtime stories. This house, it meant nothing to Serene. It wasn't where her papa was, and it wasn't where she wanted to be.    This house made her feel so lonely, so alone. She had been so sad, and cried all the time at first but now she was angry. She was so angry at her mama; it was all her fault that papa died. Serene had heard something, a very bad something and it changed everything.  --------------

Chapter 1.21: Dear Universe

Image
Dear Universe and Christy, I apologize that I haven't written back to you even though I got your letter a week ago. It's been very difficult for me and my little sister this past week. I don't even know where to start explaining, someone I knew and who was important to me passed away. The police and the doctors said it was a heart attack but he was healthy. I don't understand it, not one bit. Toby was like a father to me, he raised me pretty much and now he is gone.  I'm sorry.... I shouldn't be talking about such sad things with you. You're both so young and have so much to experience even if you are a ghost, Universe, don't let it stop you from doing what you want. Christy, live your dreams and always have fun, okay? Mama took us to get our hair done and cut, I decided to cut mine shorter than I would have been okay with before. I'm a different person now, I don't feel so happy and young anymore. I feel lifeless and tired all the time. Th

Chapter 1.20: Piano and I

Music was the home for your pain And explain I was young, he would say Take that rage, put it on a page Take that page to the stage Blow the roof off the place ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Author's Note: The captions are from If You Could See Me Now by the Script. It's a really good song, and I highly recommend looking it up, especially for this chapter!

Chapter 1.19: You Can Try

Image
Authors Note: Know how I said you wouldn't hear from Juniper's POV again? Turns out, I was wrong. I'm just going to say that her point of view isn't going to be as common anymore but is still possible. Juniper had convinced herself that it was in her families best interest if she scouted out the new neighbors; knowing everyone in Willow Creek came handy and she was certainly not going to slack off now. She knocked on the door, and waited with Toby by her side in case they were axe murderers. "Do you think they are serial killers?" Juniper asked jokingly. " Nope, I think they are nice people. I heard one Venus's mom that only two people moved in," Toby said. She smiled, and patted him on the shoulder. Their relationship was a bit rocky, and sometimes they fought, but they were trying to work through it. He still was unable to understand why she quit being an investor, and there was nothing she could say to make him understand how awful it was

Chapter 1.18: Writing Universe

Image
Isobel had been ecstatic when she had gotten the letter from Universe; she had tore open the seal and nearly the letter but as soon as she had it out of the envelope she read it. She, of course, read it about three times as if she were trying to memorize every word. It had been quite some time since she had first submitted her profile to the Pen Pals site and now she finally had her own pen pal! Her mama had been a bit weary of the idea and the compromise was her mama being there when she wrote to the person but now Isobel was sixteen years old. Sorry mama, she thought, but I don't need to be watched every second now. She looked at the picture that she had came with it, and had to squint some to see a very vague outline of what looked like another child. A ghost? Universe was friends with a ghost? That was cool! Isobel, still grinning, began to write back to Universe making sure not to leave any details out. Dear Universe and Christy, It's lovely to hear from you both!

Chapter 1.17: Not Again

Hayden had a rough day at school, no, he had a very shitty day at school. It all started when his programming instructor gave him a zero on his test because he was accused of cheating. It was a load of crap. Hayden had called him out on it, and was sent home early which was also shit. Everything was shit today, and then later when the new kid at school showed up it got even worse. Much, much worse and he was glad he was sent home or else he would have lost it. The new kid, Seth Marino, was the one person he absolutely hated. The kid was nothing but trouble, and it wasn't the normal kind of trouble either. Seth was the reason that Hayden had gotten kicked out of his last school, or more accurately his last three schools. Now, he was here at the same school again and if he had left everyone alone then his day would have been decent. Hayden had decided to go for a walk, to Magnolia Blossom which usually helped clear his head as most exercise did. His walk had started out fine, gre

Chapter 1.16: School of Art and Science

Isobel giggled as she pressed the send button, Emm was going to flip out because they were literally talking about the guy on the computer next to her. She heard the ding on Emm's computer and struggled to keep her composure as she watched her friends reaction. They really weren't suppose to be chatting at school but the gossip was particularly juicy and she had just dared Emm to talk to the brooding male next to her. Emm made a face on the other side of the glass wall, and shook her head. Isobel nodded encouragingly, because she knew her friend was totally crushing on him. "Hey... Ummm, what's your name again?" Emm started to say. The new kid looked up from his computer, raised an eyebrow and then looked back to the computer he was on. Isobel typed up another message and hit send, this time she raised her eyebrow at Emm and looked to the new kid. Emm made another face, and cleared her throat. "Soo, your name?" Emm asked again. "Is it really

Chapter 1.15: Punch Away the Pain

Hayden couldn't get what the counselor said out of his head, and the gym had always been his safe place. It's where he went when he needed to get out except this time he had taken some chick with him, because he didn't want to be alone. She was all excited, the cute new kid had asked her out on a date. He knew he shouldn't have let her think that; he should have told her it was just hanging out, but he wasn't the nicest person so he didn't say anything. Grunting as he ran on the treadmill, he started to think about what the counselor told him and how this was his last chance. If he fucked it up here, he wouldn't be able to graduate High School and no graduation meant no diploma for him which really screwed with jobs. So, he was in a rough place. Hayden hated school, so much, but he was smart and knew he needed to graduate so he had been trying. "Hayden, are you listening?" Ciera asked him, he blinked and turned to look at her. He hadn't

TIME SKIP

Image
This is not a technical chapter, but it will answer some questions that might have come up in the chapters up till this point. To start, the time skip is skipping ahead to when Isobel is sixteen and Serene is nine.  What happened with Juniper and Toby? They are struggling, but trying, her choice to change careers really shook things up with them.  Did Juniper miss anymore birthdays and pies? YES! She missed two, Serene's fourth and Isobel's twelfth birthday, but the good news is that Toby made them both really tasty pies to make up for it! Do Isobel and Serene get along in the time skip? Eh, well sometimes but having a toddler follow you around isn't the most fun! Isobel and Venus on their twelfth birthday, they were almost teenagers! Toni and Isobel still great friends; going on many pirate adventures together. Look at Allen, nonchalantly in their picture! Ciera and Isobel hanging out at their party. Toni finally let Isobel play the captain beca

Chapter 1.14: Almost Eleven

Image
Isobel had forgotten the time, mainly because she didn't have a watch and forgot her phone at home, but she had the same feeling she from the night she got back too late when they had gone camping. She was going to be in some trouble at home, hopefully it wouldn't be too bad because her grades were pretty good and she was progressing well on the Piano. It had been important to both mama and Toby that she learn how to play, so she did. She didn't think she could be as good they were, but she wanted to try. She cheered as Toni, her friend from school, stated that they successfully got around the rocks and Allen laughed. She really enjoyed hanging out with Toni, because they liked all the same things and played the same games. "Land ahoy!" Toni yelled! They all laughed, Emm and Venus were off playing some other game but this was her favorite. "Eh, Captain Toni I have to go now!" Isobel said, as she waved goodbye to them. She'd see them all tomorr

Chapter 1.13: New Feelings

Image
Juniper had gotten home and was seriously pissed off at her boss; how could he dock her pay? Didn't he know she had to support two kids and a man who barely made enough to live off? If it wasn't for her then the girls and Toby would be starving, homeless. She even told him that! She had begun to pace back and forth, but stopped when she heard Isobel laugh. What was so funny? Juniper walked closer, and froze. This was her worse nightmare! Isobel was talking to a boy. A boy! Oh God, she always feared this day. "Hey munchkins, what's so funny?" Juniper asked, eyeing the boy. He was much too young to judge him by his looks, but hopefully he would grow up into a hot young man for her daughter. Wait... did she just think that? Oh God, this day couldn't get any worse could it? "Oh hey, mama," Isobel said in between giggles. "Allen was just telling me about what happened in his art class at school," she said, still giggling. "Man, it
