Chapter 1.03:Happy Pie Day

Juniper sighed, she wasn't going to win any mother of the year awards.... She had completely missed Isobel's fourth birthday a while back. She was such a screw up as a parent, luckily Toby had promised to help with her fifth birthday this year so it wouldn't be missed. Juniper screamed inside the coffin she was sleeping in, something had went wrong with the process of becoming human again and she still had unusual behaviors.
A few hours later, she sat at the dining room table with Isobel and freshly made apple pie. It was the day before her fifth birthday, and because she had to work tomorrow she went ahead with the celebrations. Juniper knew that most other families baked cakes with over sugary frosting decorating it, but fuck cake. Pie was much better, and there was no chance that extra sugar was going to go into simply decorating it.

"Happy Pie Day!" Juniper said excitably. She watched her daughter smile and stare at the apple pie. Juniper wasn't going to miss another birthday, not ever, instead she knew this was going to be the beginning of an odd but lovely tradition. Screw those with their normal traditions, who wanted to be normal these days anyways?

Sitting there with Lilith so close to Isobel, she grimaced. It wasn't that she didn't like Lilith, but she was a vampire and vampires needed blood to survive. Juniper just couldn't take the feeling that her little girl was being seen as a snack for the woman. "It is lovely to see you tonight," Lilith said.

"Indeed," Juniper said calmly. She was definitely keeping an eye on the vampire, no blood sucking monster was using her child as a snack. Juniper would do everything in her power to keep their interactions at a minimal. "So, how exactly did you know to come over tonight?" Juniper asked.

"Well I was out for a stroll, and wouldn't you know I saw Isobel's nanny," Lilith said, she nodded. "And I haven't seen him in a while, so I thought we would chat for a bit and you know what? We really did have a nice conversation, he really adores your daughter! He mentioned you were having her party tonight and I thought I would drop by to wish her a happy birthday, so here I am!" she finished.

"That's very nice of you, I'm sure Isobel appreciates it. It is late though," Juniper said. Fuck, why did she say that? Lilith was a vampire, which was why she was out so late.

"Mama, can Ms. Lilith stay for TV?" Isobel asked. Shit, now her daughter wanted to hang out with the vampire.

"Shit, shit, shit," Juniper growled as she sat on the couch. She knew eating the apple pie herself was going to cause her to throw up but she didn't want Isobel to get upset so she ate a slice. Now her stomach was throwing a massive fit about it and moving even slightly made her feel like she was see it reappear in front of her. "Ugh," she groaned.

After she made the mistake of trying to move too soon, she found herself running to the bathroom and throwing up her food. "Ugh," Juniper groaned again. Cleaning herself up she headed up the stairs to see Isobel as it was almost time for work and Isobel was truly five years old now.

"Sleep well my little darling girl," Juniper said quietly to the toddler that was sleeping soundly.

  1. "but fuck cake" <--- This phrase wins the chapter, lol. I love cake, but I also love pie, so it's fine!
