Chapter 1.05: Camping Trip

Isobel sat there as her mama told her a story about some princess, but who cared about princesses? She was more interested in exploring and seeing all Granite Falls had to offer, but she loved her mama so she nodded as the story was told. "What happened to the soldiers and the dragons?" Isobel asked as her mama finished the story.

"Well the brave soldiers fought the scary dragons and drove them back where they came from," Mama told her. She frowned, the dragons weren't scary. Isobel was sure they were just lonely and misunderstood by the kingdom, the dumb princess had it wrong.

"I think they should have made friends with the dragons," Isobel said. Mama laughed at her comment and she added, "well, what if the dragons could have protected the kingdom from evil people and invaders."

"They certainly could have! If you were the princess would you have tried to make friends with the dragon?" Mama asked her. Isobel made a face. She wanted nothing to do with the princess or any princess things.

"Me? A princess? No way! I'd be a dragon rider, and I'd soar through the skies on my dragons back. I would see everything and come back to tell my mama all the places I saw," Isobel said proudly. She could just imagine the places she'd see if she had a dragon. She could lead many explorations and if someone ever tried to hurt her mama she would ask her dragon to burn them to a crisp.
Isobel had decided to go hiking and promised she promised mama she would be back before dark so they could roast some weenies. On her hike she had seen this beautiful sparkling creek and picked up a fishing rod, it couldn't be too hard, could it?

"Fishes I'm gonna catch you!" Isobel said. Now all she had to do was focus, and maybe she would catch something. Hopefully some fish would take pity on her and let itself get caught, they did that right?

"Sweetness!" Isobel yelled as she held up the fish she caught. She couldn't believe it, she had actually caught a fish, two actually. Isobel looked around as it was starting to get dark out and her mama would worry if she wasn't back soon. She would come back again tomorrow and catch more fish, but for now she wanted to present her mama with a couple well caught fish!

Isobel put the fishing rod away and started jogging back towards the campsite, it was getting dark fast now and she had a sinking feeling that she was going to be in trouble. Isobel's feeling was right, by the time she got back her mama had been waiting for her.

"Isobel Clair Bay! Where the fu-flip have you been?! Do you know what was going through my head?! I almost called the park rangers to find you! Do you know what could have happened to you?!" Mama yelled at her. Her eyes widened, she started to say something, anything, but her mama cut her off. "Tomorrow you are not allowed to leave the campsite," mama said.

"But mama, I caught a fish! Two fish!" Isobel yelled back. Why did she say that? Her mama wasn't going to be swayed by fish, ugh, what a stupid thing to say!

"That's nice, but you still can't go anywhere tomorrow," Mama said. Ugh! She was being so unfair, it wasn't like anything bad happened to her. Mama could be so mean sometimes.

"Go to bed," Mama told her. Isobel glared at her mama, there was no way she was serious about not leaving the camp site. She wouldn't do that to her, right? Isobel was her little darling after all, why would she do something so mean to her little darling?
