Chapter 1.13: New Feelings

Juniper had gotten home and was seriously pissed off at her boss; how could he dock her pay? Didn't he know she had to support two kids and a man who barely made enough to live off? If it wasn't for her then the girls and Toby would be starving, homeless. She even told him that!

She had begun to pace back and forth, but stopped when she heard Isobel laugh. What was so funny? Juniper walked closer, and froze. This was her worse nightmare! Isobel was talking to a boy. A boy! Oh God, she always feared this day. "Hey munchkins, what's so funny?" Juniper asked, eyeing the boy. He was much too young to judge him by his looks, but hopefully he would grow up into a hot young man for her daughter. Wait... did she just think that? Oh God, this day couldn't get any worse could it?

"Oh hey, mama," Isobel said in between giggles. "Allen was just telling me about what happened in his art class at school," she said, still giggling.

"Man, it was so funny! You should have seen the look on Ms. Roco's face when she found all the blue mixed with the green paint! It was like her cat just died or something! She was so mad after though, I mean she made everyone paint using that gross greenish color and the brown. It looked like puke!" Allen exclaimed. Isobel laughed, which was weird. Not so long ago, she would have yelled at him for mixing the colors.

She supposed it meant her daughter was getting mature, which was good, as long she didn't grow up too fast. And she certainly didn't want to be a grandmother this young, she was only in her thirties after all! Damn, was this a midlife crisis? She smiled at them, walked into the house and then took out her phone. Time to make a life changing decision she thought to herself, as she called her boss.

"Mr. Woods, it's Juniper. I just want to express myself more clearly. You are a fucking dickwad and I can't blame your ex-wife for leaving your pathetic ass! You probably suck in bed too! One more thing, I quit!" Juniper yelled into the phone.

She couldn't tell if either of the kids heard her or not, but she hoped they didn't. Later, Toby came home and she was sipping a beer. "Uh, honey, our daughter has a boy over," Toby said.

"Guess what," Juniper said with a lofty grin."I quit my job!" she sang happily.

"Ha, funny," Toby said. He laughed, but then something in his expression changed. "Juniper.... did you really? Oh for fucks sake! I thought we talked about this!" He yelled. He was so angry at her, like what was his problem? "I can't believe you would do something so selfish! How are we going to pay for this house? How are we going to feed our children? Did you even think of them? What kind of mother would do something like this?!" He yelled.

"Fuck you! I was tired of an annoying ass boss who continuously docked my pay! At least my job payed more than yours and could support us! How FUCKING dare you say I am a bad mother! You have no idea what I sacrifice for them! No fucking idea! And by the way, they are MY children! You're not Isobel's father!" Juniper yelled back, her face twisted in anger and bright red.

"Excuse me?! I fucking raised that girl while you were at work! I taught her everything while you were off doing God knows what! I'm more of a parent than you are!" Toby snarled.

"Fuck you, you selfish asswipe! I was providing for my daughter! The daughter that lost her father! The daughter who doesn't want you to acting like her father because you'd make a shitty one! I pray to God that Serene turns out right because of what a fuck up you are!" Juniper screamed at him. Just then Toby turned around and headed upstairs as Juniper stood there fuming. "Where the hell are you going?!" she yelled as she watched him go upstairs. She stormed after him; she becoming even angrier as she did.

There was a loud crash, several of them in fact and then crying. God help him, she thought as she went into Serene's room and stood there outraged as she saw Isobel crying over a completely smashed doll house. How dare he! Her friend at least had to go, and probably wouldn't be back because of this.
