Chapter 1.14: Almost Eleven

Isobel had forgotten the time, mainly because she didn't have a watch and forgot her phone at home, but she had the same feeling she from the night she got back too late when they had gone camping. She was going to be in some trouble at home, hopefully it wouldn't be too bad because her grades were pretty good and she was progressing well on the Piano. It had been important to both mama and Toby that she learn how to play, so she did. She didn't think she could be as good they were, but she wanted to try.

She cheered as Toni, her friend from school, stated that they successfully got around the rocks and Allen laughed. She really enjoyed hanging out with Toni, because they liked all the same things and played the same games. "Land ahoy!" Toni yelled! They all laughed, Emm and Venus were off playing some other game but this was her favorite.

"Eh, Captain Toni I have to go now!" Isobel said, as she waved goodbye to them. She'd see them all tomorrow so it wasn't that upsetting she had to leave. Isobel ran home as fast as she could because it was really dark outside and she didn't want to get in trouble with her mama. The house came into view and she shivered, there was Mama standing at the door with her arms crossed.

"Isobel Clair! How many times do I have to tell you to be home before dark?!" Mama yelled at her.

"Uhhh.... A few more?" Isobel said sheepishly.

"Isobel! Do you what could happen to you? There are bad people out at night! Always, always come home before dark, got it?" Mama asked her, she was still angry. Isobel just walked past her into the house, and then she realized it was wrong move. Oops.

"Isobel Clair!" Mama shouted at her, as she walked towards the kitchen. Think, she told herself, what to say."Don't you dare ignore me when I am talking to you!" Mama yelled.

"Mama, I know! Bad people, don't talk to strangers, come straight home. I know this stuff already! I just forgot my phone at home and didn't know the time, ok?" Isobel said tiredly. It was the same lecture every time she was home late. "I don't get what's so bad about those people," she muttered.

"You don't get it?! They take little girls like you and eat them!" Mama told her. Isobel laughed, another wrong move. "It's not funny!" Mama yelled. It was a little funny, but mama wouldn't see it that way.

"Fine, I promise to be home before dark next time," Isobel told her mama. What was the big deal, anyways? She could always ask Venus to zap them, she was an alien and was totally cool with protecting their little friend circle. "Why can't you be like Venus's parents?" she asked, under her breath. "I'm gonna be eleven soon, I don't need a curfew."

"Because we are not aliens! And yes you do! Just because you are almost eleven does not mean that you get to stay out when it is dark out! Now, go to your room and do your extra credit then go to bed," Mama ordered. Isobel sighed, and did as she was told for the most part. She went to do her extra credit work outside and mama followed with her own reading.

It was cool, until she started singing some weird song. Isobel quickly finished her work and then got up. "Goodnight, mama," Isobel said, she was slightly annoyed.

Comments

  1. Isobel needs to be careful. Juniper is right. Vampires are out after dark.

  2. I didn't even think about Vampires until Audrey said something about them... I wonder if Vampires are the real reason Juniper is so stern about being out late. (Also, this is Arrowleaf from the forums if you didn't know)

  3. So now Juniper is yelling at everyone?? Oh boy, this does not bode well for the happiness of the house going forward.
